Driving Instructor Christchurch

Jake Harrison

Manual • Quick Pass • Refresher • UK Driving •

Progress every lesson

Jake is the latest addition to the YES! family as a Driving Instructor in Christchurch and the surrounding areas.  Jake conducts his lessons in a calm and personable way, with a bit of humour involved to keep things relaxed. This is a necessity when creating a suitable learning environment.
He aims to go at the pupil’s speed (metaphorically speaking) where they feel comfortable, whilst introducing appropriate challenges to ensure they feel like they’ve made steps forward by the end of each lesson.

Jake wouldn’t ever want his clients to suffer in silence and would hope everyone knows they’re in a non-judgemental, supportive environment where they’re free to express concerns or worries and expect reassurance and empathy.

Beautiful Dorset

Jake has lived in and is now enthusiastic about being a Driving Instructor in Christchurch, for around five years now. He knows the area well and regards Dorset as utterly unique and beautiful. The only way to enjoy it is on some wheels and he loves helping his students achieve the ability to get around on their own! He often asks where they will drive first when they pass. He used to expect answers like Durdle Dor or Lulworth Cove, but now he’s now more accustomed to being told a McDonald’s drive-through! Either can be included in lessons.

Jake loves music and spends his spare time in a modest home studio making the walls rumble. He enjoys writing techno, house, drum and bass and more experimental ambient stuff.

His family have two cats, Louis is old and Montague is a new addition and a fully crazy kitten.

Jake also spends a considerable amount of time cooking as he is the best chef in the house. He is always attempting new dishes, generally with success!
His secret pleasure is a penchant for waterparks. The two current favourites are Aquaboulevard in Paris and Watercity in Crete, he has designs on visiting Siam Park in Spain at some point in the future. You can’t beat a good flume!

Driving Instructor in Wimborne

Paul Vater

Sense of freedom

A big part of becoming a Driving Instructor in Wimborne is the fact that Paul can remember the feeling of passing his driving test. He remembers the sense of freedom and independence that this provided him with. Since that time, he has always loved driving, whether for business or pleasure and he also recognises the career opportunities that achieving a test pass can offer students.

Having passed the Approved Driving Instructors Parts 1 and 2, this enabled him to undertake driver instructor training with Pete, YES! Driving School’s Director of Training. A key part of training is working with students under a trainee licence, whilst also continuing his own instructor training.  Having passed the ADI Part 3 (Test of Instructional Ability), he is now an Approved Driving Instructor in Wimborne and feels privileged to be working in this sector.

Helping a student to develop a core driving skill, from basic clutch work to judgement when crossing traffic or ultimately achieving a test pass is immensely rewarding. Paul takes pride in the fact that his driver training is client centred and tailored to individual student needs. He uses coaching skills which he had experience with in a former career in the health service. The role requires both an understanding of a student’s practical driving skills but, more importantly, how students are feeling emotionally and how this can impact on them and whether they are driving safely.

Life before

Originally from Poole, Paul worked as a certified accountant and an operational manager in commercial firms and the health sector in Dorset and Wiltshire. Through this career, meeting people and building successful working relationships were integral to these jobs. This included being a trustee in a charity organisation that provided training and development for health workers in the Southwest.

Manual • Refresher • UK Driving •

Shelley-Anne started her journey to become a driving instructor in February 2020, just before the initial lockdown. In such a short time, Shelley-Anne has become a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor in Southampton and the surrounding areas.

Outstanding Driving Lessons

One day when browsing the web, Shelley-Anne stumbled across electric cars and YES! Driving School’s shared interest in electrifying the automatic car fleet.
With lockdown and job insecurities looming, she picked up on the idea to secure an additional career. Shelley-Anne used the available extra time to start her training and she easily sailed through her part 1 and part 2 tests at the first attempt with great results. She then completed the required 40 hours of instructional training before going on to a Trainee Licence.  This provided valuable experience as she worked towards the final qualifying Part 3 test.  Shelley-Anne recently breezed through her Part 3 test and is now qualified to deliver outstanding driving lessons in the Southampton area, where she has lived with her family for over 16 years.

Life Before

Originally from  Zimbabwe, after much political turmoil and unrest, she came to the UK in 2003 with her husband. Shelley-Anne has since mostly worked in administration roles, at several colleges and at the Southampton General Hospital before embarking on becoming a medical secretary in the private sector where she runs the private practices for 4 consultants.

From her own son aged 13, Shelley-Anne understands the needs and worries of young people. She is a kind and very patient tutor, with a great sense of empathy in understanding the difficulties of driving in the UK.  She enjoys helping students to achieve their goal at becoming safe and skillful drivers at a time when the roads are busier than ever.  Shelley-Anne likes to instil confidence in her student’s abilities. She aims for her learners to leave their lessons with a smile, reflecting on their journey so far and looking forward to next lesson’s challenges.  She is looking forward to being a modern, up-to-date driving instructor in Southampton using the latest coaching techniques to get the best from her pupils.

Driving School family. After meeting with Ruedi and Pete, she believes that YES! Driving School is professional and very friendly.

Margaret believes that patience is the key. Pupils need to manage their expectations and not put too much pressure on themselves. She achieves this by putting a sprinkling of fun into every lesson.

Teaching has become Margaret’s new passion in life and the only reason stopping her spending 7 days a week on the road is her two beautiful children. She loves to spend time playing with them, cycling, swimming and exploring new places. However, as a good mother she also makes sure that homework is done before the fun time.

This pleasure of teaching, like nothing before, brings joy and satisfaction to Margaret’s life; she doesn’t think that she will ever get bored. She has developed a hunger to get some more experience in different areas of driving.

Margaret loves to drive around looking for new challenges on the road so will always find you some new driving routes appropriate to you level of experience and ability.

Al Hamp

Manual • Refresher •

After moving to Dorset, Al chose YES! Driving School for his Driving Instructor Training and hasn’t looked back since. Al is a friendly and dedicated instructor with a calm, understanding manner and has a patient approach that helps put pupils at ease. He is keen to achieve and maintain the best standards as a driving instructor in Broadstone and the surrounding areas.

What makes the job so interesting for Al is that no two pupils are the same, and neither are their needs. His genuine curiosity for what his pupils are thinking and feeling, helps him to tailor his lessons and teaching styles to suit each pupil, finding the best way for them to learn. Al sees learning to drive as a partnership between pupil and instructor and encourages them to have an involvement in decision making as much as possible. As a driving instructor in Broadstone, he aims to create an atmosphere that allows pupils to achieve solid learning, but at the same time allows them to not worry about being judged when they do make mistakes.

Safe & Respectful Driving

Importantly, Al prides himself on being a safe and respectful driver. Passing these qualities on to his pupils lies at the heart of everything that he teaches. He firmly believes these are qualities that are essential to making a well-rounded, competent and responsible driver for life.

Life before and beyond

Originally from the Midlands, Al lived and worked for several years in London as a Graphic Designer where he enjoyed designing for companies ranging from international brands to local businesses. From this he gained valuable experience of how to work with and adapt to a wide range of people. He moved to Dorset in the mid 2010’s to find somewhere to put down long term roots. Having worked in the design industry for several years he decided he wanted a career that was more fulfilling, and people orientated. Having always been passionate for all things motoring becoming a driving instructor was a perfect fit.

In his free time you can find him foraging deep in the forest or out on a long country walk – or if it’s raining he’s quite happy with one of his cats on his lap with a good film.

Alastair has recently passed his final qualifying test of Instructional Ability and his instructional techniques are really sharp but this is laced with a blend of humour, compassion and a natural curiosity about his pupils. Al has already stated that he still wants to learn more and progress by spending more time with our Director of Training, Pete Wilkinson.
