Alan joined YES! Driving School in November 2010, following a period of several years as an independent driving instructor. He had worked with two other driving schools in recent years. Alan moved from Banbury in 2005 and now lives in Bearwood with his wife and son. He now enjoys his passion as a driving instructor in Bearwood and surrounding areas.
Adult training has been a large part of Alans working life. He worked for many years for British Telecom as an installations engineer. Training and assisting adult trainee technicians accounted for much of Alan’s time with BT. Before leaving BT, Alan passed a selection board for the post of Training Officer at the BT training school at Bletchley Park, but the school was closed down before he could take up his post.
Moving into financial services as an insurance agent for a large British insurance company, Alan quickly moved up the rankings to Financial Consultant /Sales Manager. Training new trainee Financial Advisors to competent advisor status was a substantial part of Alan’s role.
Following a final career move into driver training, it is clear that Alan has become a popular and successful instructor. He enjoys a consistently high pass rate and many testimonials left on our web site. Alan also receives a constant flow of recommendations. Alan has a style of teaching which is relaxed and calm, and he specialises in very nervous pupils. He has a great sense of humour, which will help your learning experience to be as stress free as possible.

An absolute legend! I always looked forward to our lessons because I knew it would be full of banter and hilarious stories. I thought that Alan was a great instructor very calm very clear and very patient I enjoyed every time we went out had some good conversations and learnt so much about the roads. Started of bit sketchy but the more I did it with Alan next to me give me alot of confidence and reassurance. After learning with Alan from my first drive years ago I had a very long break from driving lessons and I was over the moon when I was able to start up learning again with Alan! I Passed yesterday first time (YAAAY!!) and I couldn’t have done it without his calm, fun nature, I’d always look forward to learning in a clear way adapted to me! (I’m a gutted that I won’t be driving about with him from now on! Hahaa) I know I’m a safe and capable driver now because I’ve had the strong building blocks put in place. I liked learning WHY things were done/ how certain things could help and it was always explained in a way that suited me, my level of driving capabilities and confidence. Alan is a top bloke! Couldn’t have asked for a better instructor, very patient and understanding. Really nice person to chat to as well. Just passed my test couple hours ago and even though I am happy, I am also sad as I won’t get to see my guy again hahahah. I was a very anxious driver but Alan never once made me feel on edge even when I did something silly on the road. He was always able to keep me relaxed and calm behind the wheel. Alan was my second driving instructor, and by far the best. He was so regular with our lessons and never cancelled them, and he was extremely calm on lessons which helped me a lot. I have just passed my driving test, and honestly owe it to him!

We just wanted to say a massive thank you Alan for all he did to help Jasmine learn to drive. When Jasmine started with Alan she really was very hesitant about learning and he completely put her at ease and built her confidence up and we can’t thank him enough for that. She was over the moon that she passed first time and drove to school the very next morning which was great news. If you have a young adult that’s a bit cautious about learning we can’t recommend Alan highly enough, he has been great.
To begin with I was very nervous and lacking confidence at the thought of driving but Alan immediately put me at ease and made me feel a lot more relaxed, to the point that my lessons became enjoyable and I never worried about asking questions.

Alan has been a phenomenal instructor start to finish both taking into account where I am at and how to get where I need to be. With having a small amount of driving experience it only took a few good lessons to get me in to an appropriate position to take my test of which I passed first time. Would 100% Recommend to anyone.

Alan took me from zero experience to passing first time. The journey has been one of the best things I have done. Lesson one I never imagined how far I would get but as the lessons went on I started to noticably see how good Alan is at teaching.

I had Alan as my driving instructor ,after riding a motorbike for several years I finally decided to get a my car licence. I was very nervous about my spacial awareness at first but even after the first lesson I had with him I could already notice how much my confidence rose up. Alan has been the most calm, encouraging and caring instructor, he utterly transformed my driving across all aspects in a very short space of time. His patience, experience and reassurance was a major incentive for me to not give up and persevere with my driving, passing today with only a few minor faults. My lack of confidence surrounding manoeuvres was tackled by Alan both professionally and thoroughly to where I could happily say I had no anxiety around parking or manoeuvres in my exam. I was extremely anxious about driving and thought I would never be able to do it but Alan was great. So experienced and knowledgeable – great little techniques to help with manoeuvres etc. He was also very calm which definitely helped me keep it together! I honestly thought I would never be able to drive but yesterday I passed my test! And although everyone is different, it was my first attempt! Extremely happy and grateful! Thank you so much.

When I approached YES driving school, I needed help and guidance to lift my level and confidence having already had lessons with another instructor and a couple of unsuccessful test attempts. Luckily, I was paired with Alan, who helped me tremendously to trust in my own abilities and taught me many driving life lessons which I expect will be invaluable. I was delighted to pass today with only 2 minors! I would highly recommend Alan as an instructor. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about teaching and really makes the whole experience a pleasure. Alan was completely open to structuring the lessons around what I wanted to work on and always had a solution to anything I found tricky to learn. I was very happy with my Yes driving school experience from start to finish!

Where do I start?! If you had said to me a year ago that I would pass my test first time with no faults I wouldn’t have believed you, but here I am!! It was all down to Alan. My husband passed first time with Alan 6 years ago so there was no contemplating who I would go with. By far the nicest and best driving instructor out there. I was so scared and anxious about learning to drive but Alan was so calm and relaxed which helped me a lot! I wouldn’t have done it without him and I thank him so much for teaching me! I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.
I study down in Bournemouth so when I started driving I was really nervous about learning my way around Bournemouth as my family home is in Reading, but Alan helped me pick it up really easily and quickly! Fantastic instructor and very patient. He explains things clearly and helps you improve on every lesson you have with him! Always on time and his car is easy to drive! Want to say thank you to Alan for helping me pass after my second attempt. After not driving for a little while and lack of confidence Alan patiently helped me build my confidence back up and helped correct my mistakes, which then allowed me to pass. Alan. Where to start? Alan has had me learning with him for almost 5 years, no matter what life was throwing he’s kept me motivated. Determined. Focused. Alan’s teaching method help you see how you’d drive with no one there and feel completely calm about it, I would 100% recommend you to anyone who asks. I’m gonna miss our catch ups before the lessons.

I was referred to Alan by a friend who also struggled with nerves. When I started driving, I didn't believe in myself at all, but Alan believed in me & with each week I started to as well! Alan is incredibly friendly and easy going which led me to be more relaxed in the car which was a huge help. Could not have asked for a better driving instructor. Was great to find Alan again after he gave my mum refresher lessons back in 2006. He was so patient and easy going. I passed my test first time with Alan after failing 4 times with several other instructors. I had given up for a year and when I decided to have another go I was very choosy about instructors. I was very stressed about all the driving license thing. Then I met Alan. He taught me not only how to drive but also how to enjoy it. He is brilliant with using his great sense of humor to discharge any stress which can occur as a result of beginner's defeats. He also quickly replaces that stress with self confidence. I wasn't the brightest student. I took 35 hours of lessons before my first practical test and I've passed it with 7 driver faults. As I mentioned I wasn't the brightest but I've passed it first time anyway, thanks to Alan. Thank You Alan.
I highly recommend learning to drive with Alan. He has a razor sharp knowledge of the practical test and how to pass it. Lessons are two hours instead of one and structured so you gradually learn to drive and, importantly, become a safe driver.

Three years ago I took my test with another instructor and I didn't feel ready whatsoever. I had no independent skill or confidence in my self to even think of passing. When I found Alan as an instructor I couldn’t believe my luck, he’s been absolutely amazing! Alan is great at texting back to questions promptly. His coaching style completely put me at ease. Friendly, kind and never gets angry. He is knowledgeable about driving, had so many good tips, and showed me common test trip-up spots. For my anxiety he was like a cure in human form. He speaks with consideration and kindness. With other instructors I’ve experienced “swooping in†but Alan’s whole attitude comes from a place of respect. Alan is the perfect instructor.

I took up lessons with Alan after my previous instructor (Andy Sheppard) also from YES Driving switched to automatic lessons. Alan is such a laugh!! Learning to drive with him was defiantly a fun experience and you never get bored. If your'e struggyling to learn a technique such as reversing, alan will be so patient and try to alter the technique so you can do it. Without Alan's patience and techniques there would of been no way I would of passed when being asked to reverse around a corner. Thankyou!x

Alan has been an amazing instructor. I came to him having never sat in the drivers seat before yet passed my test first time! Alan is amazing at allocating pupils lessons at the time and day they can do best and I've always been happy with my progression every lesson. Alan puts all his trust in you as a driver and I felt he helped me progress very quickly, especially with tricky roundabouts which were my biggest struggle but they became my most confident part of driving. Anyone would be lucky to learn with Alan he's a great teacher and great to chat and get along with!

Alan was the absolute perfect instructor for me. Patient, calm, easy to talk to and very easy to get along with. After being with previous driving schools and instructors, I felt it would take ages until I was finally driving, but having lessons with Alan from Yes! driving school, it completely changed my view on driving and instead of becoming a chore – I learnt to love it, I have just recently passed my test and I couldn't be more grateful to Alan, and would highly recommend him!

Today I passed my driving test all thanks to Alan! I had previously used other driving schools but unfortunately they were not very good and it knocked my confidence quite a lot! Its always nice to have an instructor you can have a laugh with, and Alan most certainly is a fun guy! I came from Alan from another local driving school who didnt do too much for my confidence, but Alan put me straight at ease and I think this is the reason I got through my test first time! I would reccommend him to any prospective pupil for quality tuition!

I had a very good feedback from a friend that passed his driving test after having gone through Yes driving school. I decided to use Yes and I did not regret it. I found Alan' teaching method very effective. His approach not only helps a learner scale through the technical problems in driving, it also addresses how a learner could manage anxiety issues on the D-day.I would recommend learners that require a patient instructor to Alan of Yes driving school, any day.
Today (19/Apr/2011) I passed my driving test! Second time round and all thanks to my amazing instructor Alan! He was always calm even when I was flapping and I really think he's the nicest guy you could get! If you don't choose this school you're an idiot! Thanks for everything! 😀
My instructor was Alan Gascoyne, and because of him I managed to pass first time, without any other practise. He always made me feel relaxed, which helped to give me the confidence needed to pass. I had not had any previous experience, and Alan managed to teach me in a fast and enjoyable way, as I passed in 4 months. Alan was recommended to me by 3 friends, and I would definitely recommend him to future learners, as he is the best teacher around! Go Alan!

I was with a different driving school to start with and failed my first test because I wasn't ready like they kept telling me.When I had my first lesson with Alan I was nervous as I hadn't driven for nearly a year but straight away he put me at ease and helped me get back into it quickly. I had heard about Alan from my brother who was also taught by him. He had told me how efficient and good he was as an instructor, needless to say I was not disappointed! He was always helpful and I enjoyed every single lesson I had. I have now passed my test and honestly it will be so weird to drive without him sat in the passenger seat talking to me constantly haha 😀

I had three instructors. Alan was by far the best in every way. Easy to get along with and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. I don't think I'd have passed if I had stuck with my previous instructors. I 100% recommend Alan!

Im so glad I decided to choose Alan to be my driving instructor. I found his throw you in at the deep end approach perfect for me as it forced me to do the things I had to do. If ever anything went wrong Alan really helped me to remain calm and resolve the situation. I would highly recommend Alan to anyone who wants to pass 1st time!!
Alan originally taught my older sister to drive and we were very impressed and decided to choose to be taught by him myself. He is very friendly and talkative and is a great instructor and will definitely get you to be a great and safe driver. Highly recommend him to all those looking for a wonderful instructor.

Passed first time!!I came to Alan after having a few lessons with a different instructor who was impatient and was cutting my lessons short.. I was a nervous driver and Alan was perfect in giving me the confidence I needed. Very very patient and calming especially on my earlier lessons! Passed my test 1st time on 24th April. Thanks to Alan he is a very good instructor, clear to understand and I would highly recommend him. He is very professional and gave me loads of confidence in my driving.
