Tom enjoys the wide variety of different people he meets as a driving instructor in Christchurch and working with them to find the very best way for them to learn. He naturally puts his pupils at ease and he knows that learning works best when the pupil is happy and interested. For this reason, Tom encourages pupils to put the right mix of skills and topics into a lesson to keep it interesting throughout. Tom takes pride in adapting his lessons to the performance of the pupil on the day. He understands that pupils will learn some skills faster than others and continuously adjusts the pace of the lesson to suit them. He specially enjoys the point at the end of a lesson when a student can look back and see the improvements they have made.
Tom moved to the area from the Lake District more than 20 years ago, from a beautiful (but rainy) part of the country to another beautiful part of the country where it rains much less. He has spent much of that time working in large corporations which had strong focus on developing people skills. He often led training sessions both for groups and individuals. Tom is now uses as many techniques as possible to transfer knowledge and skills. Combine that with his long held interest in motoring (but don’t expect him to be excited by anything made after 1980) and becoming a driving instructor in Christchurch was an obvious career choice.
His two kids have reached the age when they are still at home but never around, and are really looking forwards to free driving lessons! In his free time Tom really enjoys coaching the juniors at a local kayak club and exploring this lovely part of the country. He enjoys paddling his sea kayak along the Jurassic coast or peddling his bike around the new forest. He enjoys playing Bridge too.
Tom has recently completed his Instructional training with our Director of Training and successfully completed the final qualifying exam.

I worked with Tom to pass my test after not having a lesson for many years. In my first session Tom explained what I could expect from him and what he expects from me. We then analysed my driving ability. at the end of the first session we looked at timeframes and agreed a realistic target date to pass.
Over the few months I was with Tom he taught me a lot about driving in order to pass the test and more importantly driving safely in the real world. Tom is friendly and fun to be around. Tom allowed me the freedom to make my own mistakes (when safe to do so!) and use them to discuss and learn from. I’m happy to say I passed first time, well before my target pass date, and thanks to Toms teaching methods I’ve driven safely and confidently for the past few months.
Many thanks Tom!

The demand for driving lessons is currently far exceeding the availability of our team of instructors.
In an attempt to manage your expectations, can we please advise that, unless you are available for daytime lesson (between 8am and 3.30pm), you WILL NOT BE ADDED to our waiting list. Our general waiting list currently has over 200 names on it.
For those with daytime availability, please do click the Enquire/Book Now button and COMPLETE the form which follows; you are under no obligation by doing that. The more availability you have, or if you can be flexible to take short notice lessons, the better chance you have of gaining lessons.
In the meantime, it is important for you to continue to search elsewhere for driving lessons with other schools.
Good Luck in your quest for lessons and we hope the situation will improve soon as our team grows. If you, or someone you know is interested in becoming a Driving Instructor or joining our team then please click here
